About Bank2XL

Why this tool exists, who built it, and what we're trying to do differently.

Where it came from

This started when we were helping a friend with a small Etsy shop close out a tax year. Their bookkeeper needed transaction history from three checking accounts, two credit cards, and a PayPal, all as monthly PDF statements going back two years. The existing PDF-to-Excel tools either refused to read statements that weren't on their supported-banks list, dumped rows into column A with amounts split randomly across B, C, D, or charged $30 a month for a one-off batch of work.

The worst part was that none of them told you when they got it wrong. You'd get an Excel file, paste it into QuickBooks, and only notice the missing $1,800 rent payment three weeks later during reconciliation.

What we built differently

  1. Vision AI as the extractor, instead of rule-based per-bank parsers. New layouts work without us writing code for them.
  2. Reconciliation as a post-check. Every account is scored against its reported opening and closing balance, and you see the delta if the totals don't match.
  3. Works across languages. We've tested English, French, German, Portuguese, and Russian statements in small samples. Column labels and currency symbols are kept as they appear, not translated. Other Latin-script languages often work too, but we can't promise until we run them.
  4. Privacy you can audit. Files travel over TLS. We process them in memory, and by default we keep a copy for 24 hours in an encrypted debug vault we use only to investigate failed extractions. Opt out in Settings and nothing is written to disk. We don't train AI on your content or share it. Full retention details.
  5. Free during beta. 10 statements per day per extension install, no signup, no credit card. (An abuse-prevention cap applies per IP prefix.) We want to measure real accuracy on a long tail of bank templates before we set a price.

Who we are

Bank2XL is run by a tiny team in Podgorica, Montenegro. Dmitry, the founder, writes the engineering code and the support emails. There's no marketing department and no sales pipeline. If you email us, you get a real person.
