About Bank2XL

Why this tool exists, who built it, and what we're trying to do differently.

The origin story

Bank2XL started when our team was helping a friend with a small Etsy shop close out a tax year. Their bookkeeper needed transaction history from three checking accounts, two credit cards, and a PayPal — all as monthly PDF statements going back two years. The existing PDF-to-Excel tools either:

Refused to read the statement because the layout wasn't on their list of supported banks,
Returned a CSV with rows in column A and amounts split across columns B, C, D randomly, or
Charged $30 per month for a 90-day burst of usage we didn't need.

Worse: none of them told us when they got it wrong. We'd get an Excel file, paste it into QuickBooks, and only catch the missing $1,800 rent payment three weeks later during reconciliation.

What we built differently

Vision AI as the extractor, not rule-based per-bank parsers. New layouts work without us writing code.
Reconciliation as a post-check, not an afterthought. Every account is scored against its reported opening / closing balance and we tell you if the totals don't match.
Language-agnostic capture. We extract Russian, Portuguese, German, Arabic statements with original column labels intact — not translated.
Privacy by default. Files are processed in memory and never written to disk. We don't train AI on your data.
Pricing for individuals. $7–49 per month, not the $30–99 legacy converters built for accounting firms.

Who we are

Bank2XL is operated by a tiny team based in Podgorica, Montenegro. The founder, Dmitry, writes the engineering code and the support emails. There is no marketing department. There is no “sales motion”. If you email us, you get a real person.

What we're not

Not a bookkeeping app. Bank2XL extracts; your accountant or QuickBooks does the categorization and books.
Not a budgeting tool. We don't have a category taxonomy.
Not an investment tool. We don't import brokerage statements (yet).
Not for fortune-500 procurement. If you need SOC2, on-prem, or DPAs, we're happy to discuss a custom build — but the default product is built for individuals and small businesses.
