The flow end to end

  1. Download your PNC statement PDF from online banking. (For PNC Virtual Wallet Spend ****4422, this lives under Statements & documents.)
  2. Open Bank2XL (Chrome extension or web) and drop the PDF in.
  3. Bank2XL extracts the transactions and verifies them against the statement's opening and closing balance ($6,775.30 on a recent example).
  4. Download the CSV or OFX file.
  5. Import it into Xero. See steps below.

Why this combination

PNC statements include a per-transaction Reference Number column that helps with bookkeeper reconciliation. Bank2XL keeps it. Many other PDF-to-Excel tools silently drop it.

Xero on the import side: Xero is picky about CSV column names. If you use the CSV option from Bank2XL, the column headers match what Xero expects (Date, Amount, Description). If Xero complains, switch to the OFX file, which is unambiguous because the format is structured.

Importing the CSV or OFX file into Xero

  1. In Xero, go to Accounting » Bank accounts.
  2. Click Manage account » Import a Statement.
  3. Upload the CSV or OFX file from Bank2XL.
  4. Confirm the date format and column mapping on the next screen, then complete the import.

What you get in the file

PNC Virtual Wallet Spend ****4422, monthly statement, $6,775.30 closing balance, 30 to 80 transactions a month, scanned or digital PDF.One CSV or OFX document Xero accepts directly, with each transaction's date, amount, description, and account type. Balance reconciliation status sits on the validation sheet of the matching Excel output if you want to double-check before importing.

FAQ

Xero asks me to map columns and I don't know which Bank2XL column goes where.

Date column maps to Date, Description to Description, Debit to Spent, Credit to Received. The Balance column from Bank2XL can be left unmapped because Xero recomputes running balance after import.

Does Xero support reconciliation if I upload bank statements manually instead of using a live feed?

Yes. Manually imported statements show up in the same reconcile tab as live-feed transactions. You can match them to existing invoices and bills, apply bank rules, and split transactions the same way.

Can I get Excel alongside the CSV or OFX file?

Yes. Every conversion produces all formats at once: XLSX, CSV, QBO, OFX, QFX. Download whichever you need. Most users grab the CSV or OFX file for Xero and keep the XLSX as a human-readable backup.
